Meal Care: Nourishing Young Minds, Shaping Bright Futures

Light for Life launched its Meal Care program with a simple but powerful mission: to ensure that no child is forced to learn on an empty stomach. Many students from poverty-stricken households were arriving at school without a proper meal, a reality that left them struggling to focus in class and robbed them of the energy to fully engage in learning. Recognizing this urgent need, Light for Life stepped forward with a program dedicated to restoring dignity and giving children the nourishment they need to succeed. The initiative was officially launched on 10th January 2023 at Hameed Al Husseinie College, Colombo 12, under the patronage of the Honourable Susil Premajayantha, former Minister of Education, who graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Honourable Mujibur Rahman, Member of Parliament and the Board of Directors of Light for Life attended as Guests of Honour. The program began by providing daily nutritious meals to needy students, immediately transforming classrooms into places where children could concentrate, learn and thrive. Encouraged by the success of the program at Hameed Al Husseinie College, Light for Life expanded Meal Care in 2024 to Khairya Muslim Girls’ College, Colombo 09, extending its reach to even more children in need. Today, this initiative continues to touch lives, reminding us that something as simple as a meal can open the doors to education, opportunity and a brighter future.
