LFL Directors speak on New Building Project
“Unity made the land possible; unity will now build the future” – Mr. Haroon Ahamed
“This building is where vision meets opportunity for every child” – Mr. Mohamed Fowz
Light for Life (GTE) Ltd. has announced the official commencement of the New 7-Storey Building Project for Hameed Al Husseinie College, Colombo 12, on 6th September 2025, a landmark initiative that will reshape the future of one of Sri Lanka’s oldest Muslim schools.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Haroon Ahamed, Director of Light for Life, reflected on the journey that brought the College to this milestone. He recalled the historic land acquisition of 2017, made possible through the generous donations of all sections of the Muslim community, who united for the cause of education. As both an old boy of the College and a member of the Memon community, Mr. Ahamed played a supportive role in engaging his community to contribute to the effort. “That achievement proved what unity can accomplish. Today, as we prepare to build on that land, I am confident that, In Sha Allah, our donors and well-wishers will once again come forward to support this noble project that will benefit generations,” he said.
The building is envisioned as a modern, multipurpose complex, blending academic excellence with holistic development. It will house state-of-the-art classrooms, a fully equipped gymnasium, an auditorium, extracurricular activity rooms and indoor and outdoor sports courts, including futsal, boxing and karate. With its energy-efficient, fully solar-powered infrastructure, the building will not only address present needs but also stand as a model of sustainability.
Mr. A. A. Mohamed Fowz, Director of Light for Life, emphasized the forward-looking impact of the project. “For over a decade, Hameed Al Husseinie College has suffered from acute classroom shortages. This project is not just about adding space, but it is about transforming the learning environment. With English Medium instruction, Maths and Technology streams at Advanced Level and accessible facilities for students with disabilities, this building will prepare our students for the demands of the 21st century,” he said.
Both Directors noted that the project will extend its benefits beyond the College. The modern auditorium and shared spaces are designed to host school celebrations, leadership programs and community activities, creating stronger bonds between the institution and its surrounding neighborhoods. “This is more than a school project, it is a community project. It is about creating opportunities, fostering unity, and inspiring future leaders,” Mr. Fowz added.
Constructed on the 80-perch land acquired in 2017, the New Building Project stands as a testament to vision, unity and generosity. As the project will be kicked off this September, the Directors expressed confidence that the new Building will emerge as a beacon of education, a source of pride for the community and a living legacy for generations to come.
